Position Summary
The Assistant Mechanical Project Manager supports the planning, coordination, and execution of mission-critical data center mechanical projects, including chilled water systems, hydronic piping, plumbing, process piping, and associated structural supports. This role works closely with Project Managers, field leadership, vendors, and owners to help deliver projects that meet stringent schedule, quality, and safety requirements typical of hyperscale and enterprise data center environments. This position is intended for candidates seeking a long-term career path toward Mechanical Project Manager / Senior Project Manager roles in data center construction.
Key Responsibilities
Project Support & Coordination
Assist with day-to-day management of data center mechanical construction projects
Support fast-track schedules and phased turnovers common to mission-critical facilities
Coordinate closely with field supervision to align manpower, materials, equipment, and prefabrication activities
Participate in project kickoff, coordination, owner, and subcontractor meetings
Procurement, Cost & Schedule Control
Assist with material and equipment buyouts, including long-lead items critical to data center schedules
Track procurement status, deliveries, and vendor commitments
Help maintain:
Project budgets and cost tracking
Labor hour tracking and productivity reports
Change order and potential change order (PCO) logs
Assist with monthly job cost reviews and forecasting
Documentation, Quality & Compliance
Assist with preparation, review, and tracking of:
RFIs
Submittals
Change orders
Field change documentation
Maintain accurate and organized project records consistent with data center owner standards
Support QA/QC processes, including pressure testing documentation, inspections, and turnover packages
Assist with project closeout documentation such as O&M manuals, as-builts, and commissioning support
Field, Safety & Owner Coordination
Support coordination between office, field, and prefabrication teams
Conduct jobsite walks to verify installation progress and scope compliance
Help enforce company safety policies and data center–specific site requirements
Coordinate with owner representatives and other trades in highly controlled operating environments
Estimating, Preconstruction & Turnover Support
Assist with quantity take-offs and scope reviews for data center mechanical systems
Help review vendor, supplier, and subcontractor proposals
Participate in estimate handoffs and detailed project turnover meetings
Support constructability reviews and prefabrication planning
Qualifications
Required
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, or related field OR equivalent industry experience
1–3 years of experience in mechanical construction (internships and field experience acceptable)
Basic understanding of mechanical systems including:
Chilled water (CWS/CWR)
Hydronic piping
Plumbing systems
Mechanical equipment supports
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and coordination models
Strong organizational, communication, and time-management skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
Preferred
Experience working on data center, mission-critical, industrial, or healthcare projects. Familiarity with project management and construction software (Procore, Bluebeam, AutoDesk, etc.)Experience with Trimble products (Trimble Connect, AutoBid, ProjectSite, Autobid, point to point)
Exposure to prefabrication, modular construction, or advanced coordination workflows
